The 2010 season has started with the Tony Ryan Memorial Match and Andrew "Crock" Crockett has put together a match report, including the celebrations for Pudge's 50th birthday. Thanks Crock for being the inaugural ACT Vets reporter.
The annual Fools Day Festival will be on Saturday 27 March at Portsea Oval, RMC Duntroon. The RAAF Mirages will be playing at this year's festival, along with teams from the South Coast, Monaro and Sydney. If you are interested in putting together a team to participate, the information flyer and registration form can be downloaded and entries must be in by 14 March.
Training has commenced for the 2010 season and is every Wednesday evening starting at 6pm. The training venue is Kapyong Oval, which is across the road from Portsea Oval at RMC Duntroon. The Club recommends that you attend training when you can, for the following reasons:
regular training will improve strength and fitness, lessening the risk of injury
training can improve our skills, so we know what we're doing and can enjoy the game more. Proper technique in scrums, lineouts, rucks and mauls will also reduce the injury risk.
fewer knock-ons from the backs means fewer scrums for the forwards
The 2010 fixtures list is now on the website. Some matches have dates to be determined, so keep an eye out for updates. The first three games will be a selection trial for the match at Canberra Stadium on Saturday 10 April against the Royal Australian Navy 'Old Salts', the curtain raiser for the Brumbies v Free State Cheetahs Super 14 match.
Please note that, due to the Canberra Day long weekend, the regular game originally scheduled for 7 March has been moved to Sunday 14 March.
There is an opportunity for the literary gifted club members to put pen to paper for match reports this year. If you would like to put together a report, it should be around 250-500 words and can be humorous or serious, just keep it clean. Please see Craig "Contact" Wilkes or Dave "Tagger" Creagh on match days if you're interested in writing a match report for the website.
