Match Report
ACT Vets Regular Fixture - Sunday 14 March 2010
The ACT Vets traveled away to ADFA playing field for their second
match of the season. It was a tough contest where a few brilliant
displays of Rugby prowess, saw the
final score end up being a 9 – 9 draw. It was an unusually
fast paced match with a lot of enthusiasm on display from many
“virgin” players taking the field.
The forwards' work at the breakdown was superb with Dave
Creagh and Lloyd Petty leading the way. Barrel was at
his brutal best in defence, stopping a certain try out wide,
smashing newcomer Warren Clark into the pitch (we hope
you
come back Warren).
As the match progressed the Vets gained in confidence with
A.J. Smith crashing over the line with a brilliant try for the
Blues. Not long afterwards Woodsy (in his brand new Ferrari red
headgear) ran 60m, past 45 defenders, to score a well earned try for
the Reds. It was certainly
entertaining to see Ian Wells making ground with some determined
ball running as the teams settled down to play their phases and work
the ball. Gareth “Macgaw” was at his pestering best at the
breakdown, and God knows how good he would be if he was actually
onside.
The McInnes brothers were a force to be reckoned with, both
Ray and Tim always in the right place at the right time. There were
a lot of spectacular performances on display today, but the most
spectacular of all would have to be that of the referees.
We would like to say a big Thank you to Dave Murray and Bill
Stefaniak for their fair but firm adjudication of the match.
After the match the Vets and their Better Halves adjourned to
Olims Hotel for a drink and socialising, and getting to know the
"virgins". Dave and Bill were awarded Players of the Day for
their refereeing and received the customary schooner of beer.
Too Much Rugby is Never Enough!!!! See you next match
